Topic: Clock Speed Adjustment

The clock in my '46 Deluxe runs a bit fast, about 2-3 minutes in 24 hours. Around the adjusting screw (see pic) on the back of the case is stamped showing which direction to turn to go faster or slower, as well as graduation marks. How much change in speed does each mark represent? I'd like to crawl under the dash for one adjustment only.

Do you have another clock that works that is out of the car?
Not claiming to be an expert on clocks, but this maybe more than a one time visit under the dash.
My thoughts were to bench test the extra clock and try and get a feel for how much to set the setting. (knowing of course the Murphy rule -- no two clocks are the same)
Two points maybe too much, one point not enough. Hope you get what i am trying to say.

You should consider removing the clock and having it lubricated. Then check the time adjustment on the bench with a car or lantern battery.

These clock were not known for accuracy when new, so don't expect it to keep good time over a week.

The clock was cleaned and oiled with clock oil. I had to open it again the clean the contacts, and since then it has run okay. You are right Tom about accuracy, as I'm sure that temperature changes has an affect on how accurately it operates. It's probably less trouble to reset the time whenever I take the car out for a run, than to take the clock out for a bench calibration or crawl under the dash for a half dozen adjustments.
