Topic: 1934 Ford Rumble Seat Counter Balance Springs

tommymdot    -- 03-29-2020 @ 2:08 PM
Can anybody send me a photo of the counter balance spring installation on a 1934 5 window rumble lid?
It appears that my car was converted from a trunk to a rumble and the springs were never installed.
I purchased springs and brackets thinking I could figure it out, but I must not be that smart! (My wife was right)

Thanks for any help.

The spring-assisted counterbalanced rumble lid made its debut in the '32 deluxe coupe (3-window) and continued to be used through the '34 model year on coupes and the cabriolet. The photo below is of the '32 set up. The '33-'34 set up is the same except the stop bumpers were incorporated into the vertical strainers where the hinges pivot. The arms on the hinge shafts where the back of the springs attach also differs as the '33-'34 version is shorter than that in the photo. The springs and adjustment brackets spot welded to the wheel wells are carried over parts from '32.

That photo is perfect. Thanks so much for all of your trouble!
I have a few '32 parts. Let me know if I can help you with anything.

Other than a good pair of closed car door latches, I'm in pretty good shape '32 parts-wise. Per chance do you have any extra '33-'34 parts?
