Topic: 1937 2dr sedan hood ornament

My 37 slantback has a hood ornament identical to a 78-8218-K. However mine has a key and moves a dog in and out to lock the handle in place. My problem is, the base does not have a cutout for the dog to go into, to lock rotation. Have you ever come across a lockable handle for a 37 with a matching base? Was the lockable handle a factory option?

  HI 37 FORD
that is a WAYNE LOCKING V8 HOOD ORNAMENT, NONE FORD MAKER,
I have one,
the Original FORD LOCKING hood ornament is different,
if it slides in the chrome base, you may be able to file or use a small grinder to make make a notch for it work?
If you want to learn about your 37 get the 1937 FORD BOOK offered on this web site,
hope this helps 1937RAGTOPMAN

You'll probably need to notch it yourself. Finding a notched base could be a futile effort. Find a junk base to practice on to make the notch. A Dremel tool could be your friend.

Thanks for the info! I think I'll go back to the original ornament, the original locking type doesn't seem to be available.

I thought about that but there isn't much meat left after I grind out the notch and I'm afraid it will weaken the base too much.
Thanks for the input.

  HI
the base might be a little larger then the base for the original hood ornament,
you might be able to find one, if you reach out for one,
advertise in want ads in the V8 WEB SITE,
my 2 cents 1937RAGTOPMAN

thanks , but I think I'll get an original, even if it isn't lockable. I like to keep the body as original as possible.
