Have a new car . was in good storage for 50 years. I got the engine running. it sounds good but too much oil pressure . 50 lb on start up then goes to 40lbs. Any harm? Is something stuck? Engine runs nice , 1936 Engine Oil is new 10/30 Thanks George V

Your oil pressure sounds OK to me. The oil pressure will be higher on cold engine start up due to the extra thickness of the oil, especially if you live where the outside temperature drops down below freezing. As the oil warms and gets thinner, the pressure will be lower.

It sounds like you may have an 80# oil pump with a 50# sending unit. The only way to tell for sure is to pull the oil pan. You can use a mechanical gauge to check the oil pressure. That will confirm that your gauge is reading correct. If it was my car and the gauge was correct, I would change the sending unit to prevent damage to the gauge. The higher oil pressure will not do any damage to the engine. Tom
