Topic: Fuel Sending Unit

My 1937 Fordor has a Tanks Inc. polyethylene gas tank. It's a five hole around the sending unit opening. I am going to use stock gauges and the car is 12 volt. I just purchased a TAN-ORG fuel tank sending unit from them. They state this is for early Ford & Mopar type 5 hole design
73-10 Ohms. Has anyone gone this route? and if so, can you educate me on this purchase?

Most of the replacement senders are a variable resistor at the end of the float arm. If you retained the original six volt gauges with a voltage reducer for 12 to six volts, the sender should work. With a plastic tank, be sure to install a ground wire to the flange of the sender. I have such a sender on the plastic tank in my '47. It takes some effort to adjust the float arm to reflect the fuel level for relative accuracy. Mine is set so it reaches empty on the gauge with about a quarter full tank to alert me to the need for a fill up.

Thank you Super Real. I read a good post on Fordbarn about how to check the gauge against the fuel level in the tank. Tedious and work, but not as much work as getting stuck out on the road! Your advice will be taken.
