Topic: LB block

I have a 1936 Cabriolet, and was wondering if the LB engines are insert bearings? And when did they change from poured Babbitt to inserts bearing? How can you tell the difference looking at them?
Thanks, Jerry

According to the 1935-1936 Ford Book that the Club published, the LB engine block (insert bearings) was introduced late in 1935 (October). These engine blocks were used concurrently with babbit engine blocks during the end of 1935 and all of 1936.
LB blocks are suppose to have LB stamped on the intake surface of the block.
If you have a 1936, you should own the Club's book, available from the online store.

The LB is stamped on the left side of block (drivers side) on the intake surface front edge, behind water pump. You may have to clean away any paint etc. as the stamping is very light.I have a mid year 36 with the LB but I have seen later 36's with a babbitt engine.
