Topic: 1937 V8 60 HP Cast iron Heads

On page 8-14 of the New "1937 FORD Book" the last Sentence of the 1st paragraph says "Cast iron heads were NOT used on the "60" in 1937." I find this hard to beleive. I spoke to a friend who says he bought 2 original 1937 Fords with V8 60's and they both had cast iron heads. Is this statement in the book correct?

according to the FORD GREEN PARTS BOOK
they have both listed, for 1937-1940
which one exactly was used in 1937 is a good question,
They do not say which one was used in 1937
I would think either one would be ok,
hope this helps 37RAGTOPMAN
I know that the 85 hp engines came with ALUMINUM HEADS,but FORD had MANY PROBLEMS!!!
with these ALUM heads, so they had a campaign to change them I would think it would be tha same for the 60hp.
aluminum heads give many problems,
have to be perfect if you find a set,
maybe today with modern coolants they might fair better,
the friend that bought 2 60HP CARS ,
were they brand new ? or used,

I had always assumed that both alumnium and cast heads were used in 1937 also. The cars my friend bought were low milage cars that he either bought from the original owner or the person who got them from the original owner.

The aluminum heads were used on the early 60HP engines, and were replaced in production by the cast iron type. I believe the switch was made in late '37 when the water pumps went from the tapered to threaded style. Henry Ford was a big fan of using aluminum, but the early science of producing alloys limited the life of those items, as anyone who has tried to remove old aluminum heads will agree. Many of today's engines are mostly aluminum. As in many things, Henry was just ahead of his time.
