I mailed a 239 v8 4 blade fan to a friend. It appeared to be just like the ones on my (2) 1950 Ford sedans.

He Emailed me and said that the pilot hole on it was 1 and 1/12", and the pilot hole on a 1949/50 was supposed to be 1 and 5/16" .He also said it must be from a 6 cylinder or something other than a 1949-50.

Can anybody out there tell me anything about this??

Steve, I don't know if I can help, but looking at my 49-53 passenger car parts book, the fan comes as an all in one assembly for the 239's, with eight variations between 49 and 53. My 49 to 51 Ford and Meteor book shows the fan in an exploded view with all parts being separate. I checked my '51 8BA (Canadian built), and the fan is an assembly. I am puzzled about a "pilot hole", as the picture of the exploded view shows no hole in the fan blade hub. Both my 50 and 51 engines have an assembly type fan.

That's the hole I'm speaking of, on a 4 blade fan which was used in 1949 and the first cars off the assy. line in early 1950, because they used up what the had before going to the 3 blade in 1950, after they used those 4 blade fans up.

Steve Not to be difficult, but I'm still confused about the hole. Van Pelt has a drawing for a 49, and it shows a four blade fan assembly.

The fan on my 1950 Ford is making a rattling noise. My mechanic says a bearing might be going bad. Do you know where I can get a replacement fan assembly?

C&G (800) 266-0470. The new catalog also shows a ballbearing units for less than the cost of the materials for those we have made.
