I first met Charlie & Darlene when we sponsored a Northern Ohio 5 day tour in 1997. They drove his 1934 Sedan from Connecticut and along with Bob & Judy Malley, Lee & Edna Shanks and a number of other folks from Ohio & Western New York enjoyed a leisurely tour of the Ohio back roads concluding at the Lake Erie Islands. I'll never forget Charlie's contagious smile and wit.

A few years later when elected to the National Board, Charlie became a practical mentor not only to me but other recently elected neophytes. His manner or addressing a problem and including all members in a potential solution was amazing. We will miss you Charlie as you tour the heavens in a V-8.

Charlie and Darlene did like to travel. In 2007 they along with Kermit and Brenda Cross traveled from those eastern states all the way to Winona Minnesota for the Central National Meet. Charlie and Darlene in their 1934 Tudor and Kermit and Brenda in their 1932 Tudor.
Over the years, as Craig mentions, Charlie had that way of subtlely taking you aside and teaching you how great certain things are. In my case, it was those two lane roads. When Charlie and I were National Directors, we shared time either before or after the Face to Face Meetings exploring the surrounding areas. We usually got to where we were going by taking the road less traveled and seeing things that you don't see at 60 mph on the Interstates.
A great teacher and coordinator for sure.

I am writing this in a hotel room in Connecticutt. I could not say goodbye to my friend from long distance. I had to be there for him and family.
