Topic: Trying to identify a new noise

I had our 1942 Tudor Sedan at an event all weekend driving to and from the hotel. No running issues, was its usual ever-reliable self. On one of the last trips it developed a slight ticking noise from the area around the belts. Hard to localize and somewhat intermittent. No effect on engine power or general running.

My first thoughts were a bearing going in either the generator or water pumps, but couldn't localize it to either and no apparent effect on either the charging or temp gauges. My thought currently is to drive it, but watch things carefully. Any other thoughts?

Might it be a belt? My '47 had a creaking noise in same area--rubbed bar of soap on inside of belt, no creaking--replaced the belt.

Hmm, I've done that on my Model A's but didn't think about trying it on the V8 - I'll give it a shot.

How old is the belt? I have had a ticking noise made by the belt when a piece of it started to separate from the rest. I cut the piece off, stopped the tick, and replaced the belt.

Sounds like I need to check my belt and may need a new one.

Thanks much folks!
