Buy a couple of 5/16" x 1 1/2" bolts and cut the heads off, cut a screwdriver slot in the end without threads. Install the bolts loosely in the timing gear cover and slide the distributor on them. Push the distributor towards the timing cover as you turn the rotor and the distributor fits tight against the timing cover. install the 3rd bolt hand tight and replace the studs with the other bolts. Make sure that the distributor is flush with the cover, and then tighten the bolts.
