On the standard light switch (mine is 34) what does the spider provide other than circuit switching? Does it provide power or ground (I'm guessing ground like the horn). I ask because my China repro spider is painted black (for some reason!) and my issue seems to start there as the headlamp bulb and wiring all test ok... Thanks!

Its function is mechanical, not electrical, so its being painted is not an issue.

HI make sure the bottom of the light switch rod end is clean and hitting the brass contacts, so it make horn blow . you never said what the problem was ? my 2 cents 37RAGTOPMAN

The "spider" (B-3643) just turns the light switch. If you are having problems with your lights, please describe the problem and maybe we can give you a way to isolate the problem. Tom

First of all thanks for all the help...much appreciated! My lights are working although the steering column selector is difficult to turn. The spider did not move smoothly on the rod, so I filed both and applied a light coat of grease. My setup is currently with the 2 selector ears are at 9 and 3. Parking (cowl) lights are on with the selector turned clockwise one click. Low beams turn on with one counter clockwise click...high beams added with one additional counter clockwise click When it is returned to 9 and 3, there is an audible bump to the resting point. I don't know the function of the spring loaded center horn contact of the switch body at the at the body housing. I say that because the the steering column rod does not move forward when the horn button is pressed so I assume the spring is to assure contact between the rod and the center contact. Unfortunately, the horn sounds when the selector is move either clockwise or counter clockwise. All indications are that the previous owner re-worked the steering box and/or the steering wheel. I don't know how to remove the horn button for further diagnosis...

HI if you remove the spider, the light witch rod, can be pulled up, with the horn button attached, it is usually a greasy mess, so have plenty of paper towels, on hand, the spider get lined up with the light switch on the bottom, the brass part there is a places for the spiders tabs to go into. to make it works correctly the switch should be off at 6 , GO on like 4 for dim and 3 for bright and 9 for parking lights,. hope this helps. 37RAGTOPMAN

I'm going to remove the horn rod, but where is this ground wire attached? within the horn rod? at the button? and where at the switch body end? I'm looking at the diagram cpipp01 provided and the wire is shown(3642), but not exactly where it attaches... This message was edited by MICHV8 on 6-14-19 @ 5:28 AM

On the end of the rod where the brass contact can be seen there should be a small fiber washer between the brass contact and the end of the rod. If that washer is missing it allows the wire to ground out when turning the horn rod and the horn will blow. Check for that washer.

It is shown, but not identified separately as it is an integral part of the long light switch rod (at tip of the rod immediately above the contact for the horn at the very end of the rod). The part number is B-3639.
