Topic: Carburetor Identification Question

I'm trying to decide if I should have my existing carb rebuilt or buy a new or rebuilt. My existing carb came with my 46 woody and the previous owner's father (original owner) had replaced the original engine with a 255 Mercury. What I don't know is if the carb was from the original engine or if it came with the newer engine. The carb I have is a Holley 59 - Holley on one side of the bowl and 59 on the other. The Ford Book says there should be Ford script on one side and 59 on the other. So, I'm puzzled. Did some of the carbs used on the 46-48 engines not have the Ford script? Or is my carb an aftermarket replacement?

Thanks for any help.

It is likely a replacement. Most parts places, such as Western Auto, etc, sold replacements, but could not use the original maker's name. Today, there are very good replacements on the market. Unless you are able to install a kit yourself, they are a better choice. Even the kits have gotten pricey. We ordered one yesterday. Shipping and handling costs were almost as much as the kit!
