I have a mostly stock 36 coupe with the three brush generator.I would like to install the generator cut out with a regulator mentioned by TomO but none of the early V8 suppliers have one in stock even through they list it,nor do they know when the will get one. The fun products site only lists one for 6volt neg. ground. besides changing the route of the amp. gauge wire could I switch to neg. ground? Tired of adding water to the Batt. Thank's Frank

What is the advantage of switching to negative ground? I don't think there is any. If it ain't broke don't fix it until it is. Charlie Stephens

Fun Projects also has the POS ground regulator listed on their site and it is on back order. http://www.funprojects.com/search?querystr=1936&querytype=year You will have to change your coil if you switch to NEG ground. Adjust your 3rd brush if you are adding water very often. If you do not drive at night, adjust it for a zero reading on the ammeter with the parking lights on. Check the charge level of the battery after a couple of time driving that way. Tom

hi frank, fun products has a positive ground regulator. backordered, tho. 10505R-V8 '32-'39 Ford V8 Regulator, 6 Volt Positive Ground (Unscripted) $70.75 Backordered snyders has a solid state cut-out. just a diode, I suspect. https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/ProductDetail/A-10505-SS_SEMI-CONDUCTOR-CUT-OUT-PLAIN?fromCategory=SearchByKeyword seems I read somewhere that the coil/capacitor circuit isn't as efficient if wired "backwards." can't you just turn your headlights on to hold the charging current down?? bob

HI I found this in a MODEL A catalog, if you are a do it yourself person, Snyder's has a DIODE for $2.95 comes with instruction using you old cutout, part #a-10155dio or they also sell a SEMI-CONDUCTOR CUT-OUT for $56.00 or FORD SCRIPT $73.00 depending if you want plain or FORD SCRIPT you can call for a catalog, they way I see the 3 brush system, you set the 3 brush to your driving habits, if you only drive in the day,set it at 5 amps, and if you drive it at night set it higher, maybe 10 amps or 15 amps with lights on it should read just on the charging side, not on discharge. if you set it for night, and you run during the days, Turn on your lights, years ago drivers used to maintain there cars and made adjustments, the way as they drove the cars and were always checking the battery voltage, with a hydrometer too low adjust the generator to put more out, too high make the generator to put less out, its in the owners manuals, my 2 cents 37RAGTOPMAN

When you get the Fun Projects regulator one of the first instructions is to set the generator third brush. The regulator is nice but not necessary. You can install one when they are available. This message was edited by 40 Coupe on 6-6-19 @ 5:34 AM
