I have a 1936 Ford 2 door deluxe sedan . with a 1948 Ford flat head v8 engine . The Carburetor has a tag on it and it says USA Performance Tested I can not see a name on it anywhere on the back it has a 84 stamps on the body anyway every time I stop it dies on me if I pull the throttle out it seems ok What could be going on ??

Need more information. Why do you suspect the carb? Does it start okay and idle smoothly? Does it go back to idle when you rev it up in neutral when sitting in the driveway? Does it run good at speed? Only when it is hot? Is the idle set too low? Is the idle mixture set properly? What is the vacuum reading? Can you get a fuel pressure reading?

The idle speed might be too slow. Just turn the idle speed adjusting screw in a little bit to increase the idling speed.

Be sure that the clutch is fully releasing. You can test to see if that is the problem. Shift to neutral before you stop. If the engine doesn't quit, check to see if you have the correct amount of pedal free play. At a slow idle, less than 500 rpm, it doesn't take much drag to kill the engine.

If the idle mixture is set too lean, it will die when you stop!! l was a a mechanic for years and learned this as a beginner. Lean them when the motor is up to operating temp., until the rpm's start to drop, then back off 3/8 of a turn. If you have them at 1/4 turn, it's a little too lean! Regards, Steve Lee
