I have a 1948 Ford Flat Head v8 engine What type of oil should I put in it?? Also my friends say I should add Lucus Zinc ??

Just us a good grade of 20-40. The additive issue has been discussed over and over and there's really no need for it. If if you think you need it go ahead and put it in with the oil.

There are some people that are stuck in the past, if it was good enough for Henry Ford, it's good enough for them. The multi-grade high detergent oils were and are the best thing ever invented. However, I have been told by machinest's that rebuild engines, that detergent oil is not good for engines that have babbit bearings. Bill 36 5 win delx cpe

Another option could be the 15W-40 diesel motor oil i.e.: Rotella due to supposed higher zinc content.

I have used Castrol 20W-50 for years. About the only things additives do is drain your wallet.

When your car was built, Ford recommended 30 weight oil. With all of the improvements in oil since yor car was built, the best oil to use is a high detergent multi-viscosity oil from one of the major oil companies. 10w-30 is closest in viscosity to the original recommendations. Tom

I agree with most above. A good 10W-30 HD oil will do. No addatives. Non-synthetic. Richard
