Who carries original type generator belts. I've tried Carpenter has none, got one from Drakes (too short), tried C&G has none, Southside Obsolete has none.

Try a B54 from your local hardware store. It is not the correct profile, but it is better than any of the other options available. Tom

hi Sal did you try NAPA., I found they make a belt for my 1937 FORD, 85 hp ..,,it is the right width 11/16 NOT 5/8 or 3/4 fits correctly in the pulleys, the NAPA belts are notched for better grip and for cooling might be worth a try, hope this helps 1937RAGTOPMAN used these for years and never has any issues, maybe not for SHOW, but work well, This message was edited by 37RAGTOPMAN on 2-11-19 @ 11:10 AM

For a 1953 Ford V-8 I have used fan and generator belts from Mac's Auto Parts. They had belts that fit.

Thank you all for your replies. I went to NAPA yesterday they only had a gates belt with the cogs. I have a Dearborn car so I don't want to put that on. I will try Macs.

For B belts (21/32"), measure the outside circumference desired, and subtract 3 in. Therefore if you want a 56" belt, order a B53 as stated above. For A belts(1/2"), measure the outside circumference desired, and subtract 2 in. Therefore if you want a 40" A belt, order an A38, ( Subtract 2"). Don't know why but that's the way it is. A little lacquer thinner removes the markings on the outside of the belt . Ford Service Bul (3/36) says that belt is 11/16 across wide part of “V”

I use a "cogged" belt in my '47. It works fine, and doesn't damage the generator or water pump bearings, as does overtightening the belt to compensate for poor pulley contact.

I'd like an original type belt, so the car doesn't lose points during judging. I could've easily gotten the cog type belt from NAPA. Thanks for the reply!

The hardware store belt is the same profile as you will find at any auto parts store, including the ones that cater to the 32-53 Fords. You are more likely to find a standard V-Belt at the hardware store than at any auto supply store. Almost all of the auto supply stores sell only the cog belts and the hardware stores are beginning to follow along. The current NAPA belt for the EFV-8 is 3/4" across the top, just like the B be;t from the hardware store. I used one when my 40 was point judged and got a Dearborn. The script belt sold by Bob Drake also has that profile and is too short. Tom

I found one for my '36 4dr at NAPA parts store. It was a perfect fit for my '36 with a '37 motor but '36 heads.

I think Sal is looking for Ford script belt. I guess they are no longer available.
