Topic: Anti Freeze by Spark plug

1936TWC    -- 02-05-2019 @ 1:35 PM
On my 59AB motor I noticed a small drop pf antifreeze
by the base of a sparkplug. Any reason for concern? Possible solutions? Thanks.

I occasionally have a small bit near one of my spark plugs --- check the bottom of your radiator hose (or heater hose) on the head --- that's were mine comes from. The new reproduction hoses seem to be the problem.

The other possibility is the coolant may be leaking from a head stud and running into the spark plug well.

Which plug? The 8BA in my '53 would do that because of a hairline crack in the head next to the number 7 plug. Is your cooling system pressurized?...

  System is nonpressurized.

I replaced the head on the 8BA in my '53 because I could see the hairline surface crack. No big deal to do. But then it seems that you don't know if you have a crack or a leaking stud....

I have used this product on one of my other cars that had a slight leak with success > https://www.kseal.com/products/k-seal

Put some Bar's Leak in the radiator. See if it stops the leak.

Yes, did not notice crack by head area. Thanks for the help.

Bar's Radiator or head gasket sealer? Thanks for the reply.

Either or should do the job....

  hi
I would drain the antifreeze coolant and use distilled water, at least till the leak stops,
antifreeze seems to leak more then just plain water,
I only use water with a water wetter or water pump lube,
after I know I do not have any seepage,
I also saw people use this ,, you can loosen the head nut and wrap string around the stud, this acts as a gasket,
[you can check to see if there is a crack in the head at this time, ]
re torque the head,
old mechanics trick ?
hope this helps, 1937RAGTOPMAN

  1936TWC,

nelsb01 gave you the most likely source of the leak. Try this before you add any stop leak.

Drain the coolant, remove the to hose from the head, clean the surfaces where the hose connects to the head and then coat the inside of the hose with Indian Head gasket sh*llac, install the hose and tighten the clamp securely.
