1953 Ford V8 Sunliner has spark now at plugs but won't start. Spraying starter fluid in carb but doesn't want to start. Could the timing be off? Put distributor in correctly.

"Static time it" Connect a test light to the input on the side of the distributor. Then put the mark on the timing pulley at the pointer. Touch the pointer on the test light to a ground. Move the distributor just a little forward or back (with the key on) until the test light lights up,( that will happen when the ignition points open) lock the distributor in place and your timing is set.Turn the ignition key to off .Note: If my memory is correct, the rotor should point to about 2 o'clock if you put the distributor back in correctly.

  hi

I have a few questions,
were you driving the car last season ?
did the engine run before the tuneup ? does it have points ?
are they new foreign Asian , or NOS USA. brand ? some of the new foreign condensers are bad for the get go
I had a few bad experiences using these parts and replaced with original USA parts,
was it sitting for a long period of time ?
was it stored in a garage, or barn ?
did you take compression of the engine,?
did you flood the engine trying to start the engine when it had no spark ? spark plugs wet with gas,?
does some or anything come out of the tailpipe ? when cranking it over, clogged exhaust ? by mice, ?
I have seen this before,
the More you tell us, the better we know what you should do,
thanks 1937 RAGTOPMAN
