We need a lot more information. New motor, old motor, barn find that has been sitting, battery condition, etc. You question is like going to the doctor and telling him you don't feel good and not telling him your symptoms.

good motor, was running great never no problems. I adjusted the clutch yesterday took the car out for test run ran great clutch was fine, parked the car for a few minutes went to start it again pushed the starter switch on the floor it made a little sound however the the starter did not engage and the motor did not turn over. I checked all the wiring everything looked good but still the starter did not engage. Any thoughts on this issue. Thanks

From what you describe, I suspect the starter Bendix gear is hung up on the flywheel ring gear - that was the "little sound" you heard. Put the car in high gear and then rock the car back and forth to release the hang up. You should be able to hear a 'click' sound when it releases.... This message was edited by MG on 1-9-19 @ 1:41 PM

I am not sure what your car looks like under the hood but can you bypass the starter starter switch with a jumper cable and see if that is the problem? Was the battery "load tested"? Do you have a volt meter to test is voltage on the input and output (when switch is closed) side of the starter switch? Charlie Stephens

The floor starter switch could be the problem, especially if it's a reproduction one. I've seen more than one of those go bad all of a sudden. Do all the tests that are suggested by others. If it turns out to be the floor switch I would suggest trying to find a new old stock one.

It was as MG stated the starter bendix gear hung up. I rocked the car and did hear the click sound. The car started right up, after the rocking. Thanks for all the help, and this was the first time I have used this forum and boy did it work. Thanks again to everyone.

Ron I once had an old pickup truck that that happened to on a regular basis. I also had a Model A that had the problem. The solution is to first remove the starter and check the operation of the Bendix. While it is out slowly turn the engine and check the teeth in the ring gear on the flywheel. If one or more of the teeth is worn or chipped the only solution is to remove the flywheel and either replace it with a good one or have a shop replace the ring gear. Been there done that. 42

Are you sure that the starter is tightly mounted to the engine and that the little mounting bracket is attached? If not, the starter can get cocked at an angle to the flywheel and jam up.
