Rewiring and installing the light switch, do the brass contact buttons need to be orientated a certain way when you put housing together? I cannot get the two ccw moves snd one cw move. Seems spongy, does not “click” ??

It appears that you have the correct orientation of the switch in order to get the movement you describe. If the contact plate is from the reproduction switch body, then it will not "click" and there lies a problem. I had to find an original switch plate before the lights would work properly and then "click" into position.
