It appears as though my headlights have been retrofitted with sealed beam. Does this look like the proper fit of the outer ring?
I assume the original headlights were not sealed beam

No. The gap should be the same all around. A bigger problem is that the original glass lens will try to focus the already focused beam from the sealed beam and the result will be light that is out of focus. It will look bright but not correctly illuminate anything down the road. I would go back to the original setup. If you are 12 volts use the bulbs from Ron Francis Wire Works, https://www.ronfrancis.com, (800) 292-1940. He calls them "Brite" bulbs and they are definitely bright.

Thanks Steve I just talk to them and they only have light bulbs. If I were going back to my original set up is there anyone that would know what I would need and who supplies it

If you want to go back to the original separate headlight bulbs with reflectors the following vendors have the parts to do this: MAC's; Early Ford V-8 Sales, Inc.; Dennis Carpenter; and All Ford Parts, among others. Some of these folks also offer 6V or 12V halogen bulbs if that is what you want.

Thanks for your help I took the sealed beam headlights out today and ordered the original replacement from Little Dearborne. The sealed beam conversion kit did not allow the decorative stainless ring to fit properly plus the distortion issue that was pointed out will not be a problem

  Correct fit

  Fyi. Original set up

Be sure you end up with silvered reflectors AND NOT CHROME ONES. Chrome is cheaper and they try to push it but it doesn't reflect as much light.

Thanks Charlie I will check in with Dearborne tomorrow

If you want to use sealed beams without the stock lens and in a 36 Ford head light bucket, I would recommend using the 35 Ford trim ring which will fit and is more narrow and will fit close to the edge of the sealed beam.
