what is the secret for removing the ceramic wire end and wires from the can at the bottom of the column? I have the can apart but the ceramic disc does not want to come out. Is it 80 years of dirt holding it or is there something else holding it in?

The Bakelite disc does have a keyway and the housing has a stamped key so the disc will have to be pushed straight out. The dirt will hold it in place.
