I am getting ready to put fresh plugs in my 1937 Model 78 V8-85 The current plugs are "Champion UD16" Is this a good plug? Or is there a particular plug that has proven out to be better for this engine? Thanks Guys!

I have a 36 and use Champ "D-21" which are slightly hotter plug. Been using for past 20 yrs. , I assume these are 18 mm plogs. ken ct

Thanks ken ct, Yes..., mine are 18mm in cast iron heads. I finally found online that Champion #7 was the original plug for the '37 V8-85 which cross-references to: Champion D16 Autolite 386 NGK AB-6 (2910) and a bunch of others. Is the Champion D-21 a hotter plug than what is spec. for your '36? If so....., Is there an advantage to using a hotter plug?

Cant answer your question on specs, but 21's run much cleaner than the 16's. Same spec I would assume. Try a set you will like them. ken ct Been using them for like 20 yrs and 40,000 miles. NGK's suck.

Might have to give the D-21 a try. The UD-16 plugs that came out do look pretty fouled! Thanks!

A hotter plug is needed when a car is driven at low speeds only. If most of your driving is less than 40 mph, use a hooter plug. Tom
