New to my 1937 Ford Fordor 221 V8/85 What type of gas do I run in this rig? Most of the gas around here is 10% Ethanol.., but I do have unbranded Ethanol free unleaded gas available near by with octane ratings of 87,92 & 110. Also.., will I need a lead additive?? Again.., thanks in advance for helping a newbie get rolling on the right foot!!

You should not need a lead additive, you engine has hardened valve seats. I can't give advice on using the 10% ethanol gas, because I do not know the history of your car. Most of the cars have had Ethanol resistant rubber parts installed in the fuel system, some time in the past 25 years. If these parts have been installed in your car, you should be able to run with 87 octane fuel. Tom

My experience is our old v8s start easier, run better and get better gas mileage on non ethanol gas, plus you don't have to worry about the rubber parts being e-resistant.

Non ethanol gas here, in Iowa, is 50 cents higher per gallon than gasahol. Still, I use it as there is no viable alternative.When filling my '47, I take along a gas can used for my mower, etc. Before filling the gas, I put the first amount in the can, as the pump hose contains alcohol from the last user. The octane level is 91, far higher than your '37 needed when new. I agree with my friend TomO regarding additives. Hope you enjoy your car. '37 was a great year for Ford styling.
