Before I switch back to the original style coil from the after market one is there a way to test the ignition resistor under the dash for functionality

Place a digital ohmmeter across the resistor should be approximately 0.5 Ohm. Clean both of the mountings ears and use clean brass screws for electrical mounting.

You could also check that resistor by temporarily placing it in a 6V test circuit to see if functions correctly under load and reduces circuit voltage as it is designed to do in an ignition system. John
