While scr*pping off 60+ years of road dirt, I found this tag just under the oil sending unit and wondered if this is a re-manufacturer's tag or what? Also, it made me think twice about the block irregularity I found right near the passenger drain cock...(second photo). Any ideas?

That looks like a tag put there by an engine rebuilder. It's fairly common to find these.

A quality engine re-builder generally attaches a tag to the block that shows the bore, rods and mains. Engines that have only been "overhauled" which is a far cry from re-building, generally do not have a tag. Bill 36 5 win delx cpe
