I am attaching a scan of the manual for your truck. It is actually for a '53, but I believe your '52 will be the same headlight switch.

According to the diagram, there are two inputs to the switch, one from each pole of the circuit breaker. If your truck doesn't have the old style breaker, the two terminals are fed from the same source. The headlight switch is not connected to the ignition switch, but powered all the time. Circuit breakers were used due to the large current required for the headlights.
