Most fire trucks have signs on them identifying the town or city where they were in service. There also is usually a brass tag on the firewall or dash indicating the manufacturer of the truck body. If a town or city logo is on the truck this is where I would begin my search.

Lars: Fire trucks are heavily modifed for the equipment involved, particularly the pumps and remote engine controls and instruments. The best place to start is to locate any name and numbers on these additions. Many of these companies are still in business, or were absorbed by other firms, and often can furnish records or point you to others. There are clubs devoted to fire trucks, and you may be able to find them using the browser on your computer, as well.

check out our Western NY Regional Group #3 website. They have a tab on Fire Trucks in their menu.
