I own a 39 ford pick up with 38000 orginal miles that needs new water pumps. How do I support the motor when I change them? Thank You for any input.

Ford oil pans are pretty stout. I'd cut a piece of 2x12 lumber maybe 16" long. and place under the oil pan. A bottle jack (or for that matter, the original Ford screw jack) should suffice. No need to jack things up more than necessary, just enough to unload the motor mount.

That's the way I would do it and have done it. Richard

As often noted here, when replacing water pumps, don't forget the "hidden" bolt inside the inlet. Use a six point socket to avoid rounding off the head of the bolt. Be sure to run a wire thru the oil passage to be sure it is clear, if you are using the old style bushing pumps.
