shift clunking was caused by the kickdown/tranny/throttle link. I put a new throttle body with the correct spark valve, which caused me to have to adjust the throttle linkage. Someone on the board suggested I play with this transmission link. its on the driver side near the firewall. Anyway its pretty smooth shifting now but i may tweak it some more now that I know where it is, try and optimize the idle etc. Thanks again folks.

Adjusting the throttle link usually requires a special tool #5355. I don't have the dimensions of the tool, but can scan and post a drawing of it, along with the adjustment instructions. If the transmission is working OK, I'd leave it there. Even with the special tool, it is a tedious job to get the link adjusted.

glad we could help you-It took several tries to make the two I worked on work properly. I know have been told that you can put a pressure gauge on the trans to make this adjustment, but "IF it ain't broke don't fix it"
