On the 37 Pickup spare tire cap - and I may not be using the correct names - there is a s/s skin over the metal portion which appears to be snapped OVER the metal portion (the part that has the two studs with nuts). My question is: what is the technique to remove the s/s skin from the cap/metal part so it can be restored? James A. Westbrook

I've had good luck working around the edge with a sharpened carbon scr*per or putty knife. Others have drilled the backside and used compressed air. My method requires great patience, as you do not want to permanently bend the metal, just slowly work it off. The drilling technique is probably quicker, but you run the risk of drilling into the stainless cover.

use a drill bit with a stop fastened to it,you will not need much depth use a 3/16" drill bit and blow off with compressed air, putting back on is the "art form" of this exercise

I have used the tip of a broken drill 1/8" to 3/16" and mounted it in the drill with just enough bit showing to drill through the metal base of the hub cap. I have a SS skin that someone pried up and it looks like the devil. May have to trash it
