Topic: 1950 Truck Tools

JebNY    -- 11-14-2009 @ 12:07 PM
I'm a new member and new owner of a 1950 F1 and was looking at the index of pass articles and saw one called "1950,51 Truck Tools, including pictures" in the 1998 NOV/DEC issue. Can anyone either with the issue or with there own knowledge list what tools were in the 1950 truck tools set. Photos are always worth many words (not sure about 1000).

Not sure how hard they are to find but it might be nice to add to the truck.

Along the same lines what does the original jack look like.

Thanks

Jim...

I think you'd do well to contact Lin Stacey. He's the club's tools expert, and he also sells tools. He's listed in the Advisory Panel section of V8 Times, and always has an ad in the classified section. Stu

Thanks. Still just trying to decide what my tool needs are, but I will contact Lin for info.

I was hoping some members might have pictures of the tools and jack to post, just so I knew what to look for.

Jeb, if you go to the online store or call 707-226-5256 between 8:00am and 8:oopm(PST) you may be able to obtain that particular V-8 Times back issue.

I'll be in your same place in the not too distant future I hope, and will be contacting Lin too for a full set of tools. I didn't post Lin's email address because I know that's verboten on some sites, and didn't know the rules here.

When you get your tools, you'll also want to be sure to find the special finger bolt that secures the jack in its place behind the seat. Let's see if I can figure out how to post a picture of it here.

I did contact Lin last night and I had a list of tools and a photo of the full set in my morning eMail.

He does seem like the go to guy for tools.

I have to keep telling myself to be patient till I actually have the truck home before I go to wild buying extras.

  Stu,
I have been looking for a "thumb bolt" for my '51 jack mount for a long time. You know anyone who has one?
Thanks, Don

Wish I did. I've got a total of six 51/52s and the one I pictured is the only one that was still with the truck. I also don't recall seeing them on ebay. Probably not something the parts vendors think is special so they don't worry about listing it. Stu

Stu, What is the size of the thumb screw, diameter, thread, length. Looks familiar like I may have some in all my junk.

  Thanks.
I know Tractor Supply has some with coarse thread I could use but I am afraid of removing the 24 thread nut because it would be my luck that the cage would break, so I will leave with a bolt.

I just noticed, looking at the tool list Lin Stacey sent me, that he has a 5/16-24 thumb screw with integral 1" washer zinc plated for $2.

Yup, 5/16" x 24 tpi. Good to know that Lin has them available.

Stu, I just received one(thumb screw) from Lin Stacey which looks original and fits perfectly. If you want to be original, this is the one.
