Working on q 1946 pickup. VIN number stamped on the frame is 1GC228238. Is this a 1946 VIN? Does it mean 6 cylinder? Thanks

The 1G would mean 6 cylinder. I suspect that the C is for commercial or a year designator. The numbers are the sequential production numbers.

G is six cylinder but I think C could be the assembly plant?

C stands for commercial vehicle. The serial number falls in the 1946 six cylinder range. http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_serialnumbers.htm Tom
