  What is the purpose of the raised areas pressed into the steel over the bed frame.
There is one on each side over the axle. Mine bed floor is in pretty bad shape and don't know if I'm
therefore missing the idea.

This is inside the box, on the floor of the bed.
On my old floor is appear to be a straight line. If it was not on both sides
it would look like some sort of damage.

It's no more than 6 inches long as far as I can see.

The picture you posted under sheet metal actually shows the right side.
and there it is. What's it for?

  I can't really tell if it is raised or recessed.
Look on the bed floor beside the right side panel,
in between the fender welts.

  Here is the bottom side of a reproduction box created by Mac Products of Missouri.
I think that those raised area on the inside of the box, correspond to the cut-outs of the wood on the bottom.

Why they are there?
