38 pickup with tilt out windshield keeps cracking at the joints ( the square stock into the female side is a tight fit on the frame halves). this is the third time. each time after new glass install and cranking the windshield in with a light pressure on the new gasket and the hinge adjustments loose the glass cracks on both sides after sitting a few days. thinking of getting new made out of Lexan if i cant get this figured out. the new gasket seems to be kind of tight against the cab. any magic to this

Is it cracking where the two halves of the frame come together? Are you using glass setting tape? This message was edited by trjford8 on 10-17-24 @ 9:43 AM

Can’t help on your frame issues, but can offer advice regarding Lexan for a windshield. Relative clarity of Lexan is less than glass from day one, and will get worse as time and sunshine continues to deteriorate it. There are products that can help slow the process, but the results will never equal the clarity of glass. Alan

The glass is cracking because it is getting stressed by something. Things you can try are: slightly widening the width of the channel into which the glass fits and having the glass cut slightly smaller so it has more room in the channel. Of course the channel must be rigidly assembled so that no bending stresses are applied to the glass piece when the windshield is opened and closed.

Are you installing the glass yourself? Or is a glass shop installing it? If you are doing it yourself I recommend taking it to a glass shop. They will figure out the problem and if they install a new one they should guarantee it.
