I'm bring up a 1941 ford Pickup and putting on the door opener and the lock on the passenger side. I did not take the door lock out myself and trying to put the lock in. I believe there is an alien screw that holds the lock cylinder in. In looking in the hole that the alien screw goes in it looks like the alien screw is not in or broken off or striped. I tried to get another regular long screw in the hole, but I could not get it started. Am I going to have to drill it out and possibly tap it and just replace it with a screw?

You can try to drill it out, but it is a hardened screw and very difficult to drill out. Examine it closely as it may bve an allen head screw. There's some new stuff being advertised on TV that is supposed to work great on rusted screws, etc. I think it is called Super Zilla. I would try some first before trying to drill it out.

not an allen screw originally but a slot head, soak with your choice of junk but probe around with a narrow flat head screw driver to see if the slot is still there

Screw head long gone, been trying to drill it out but I guess I have drilled out most of the screw and now I'm in a hard area. I've bought and used several drill bits, each with different coatings but no luck. I'm lacking about 1\4" or less being all the way through.

Obtain a carbide 1/8 inch ball burr for a die grinder and you can grind it out. If you need more info, I could remove the one on my truck and tell you what the thread is.

the only way to take the lock out is to loosen the screw enough to allow it to be removed.
