Now that the truck is running,it was a bad ground on the coil condenser. I thank all that have replied. Question!? the generator ground wire goes on the inside mounting screw for the voltage regulator,(#12 black-Red tracer) mine has another smaller wire with it. It has a push type connector that goes under a screw. Where does it go? Thanks john

It should go under one of the screws that mounts the regulator.

My drawings only show one 12 ga black/red wire to the voltage regulator mounting screw from the generator. However, mine is a '51 model, which may be slightly difference. Richard

There were at least three different regulators used on Ford trucks. Both the Bosch and Ford built types have ground lugs on the lower left mounting screw holes, while the heavy duty type had a screw on the left side of the base of the unit. All depend on having a good body ground for proper operation. It is a good practice to run a ground wire from the regulator to the body of the generator, in any case. The majority of electrical problems in old cars are due to poor grounding caused by age, rust, dirt, and newly applied paint.
