I own a 1948 Mercury M-47 Pickup. The 239 V-8 engine does not have an oil filter. I have seen oil filters on other engines from 1948, and they are located on the driver's side. I have spoken to a number of Ford people, and I have been told two stories: 1. the oil filter at that time was an option; and, 2. similar to No. 1, Mercury trucks did not typically have standard oil filters until 1950. As yet, I have not talked to anyone that seems to know much of the Canadian-built Mercury trucks. Does anyone have any knowledge on this subject? Thanks

You might want to address your question to our club's Flathead Engines Advisor, Joe Abbin at roadrunnerengr@msn.com for the answer.
