I cannot get the parking brake to hold on my 45 pu. I adjusted it at both the handle and where the cable connects to the cables to the wheels under the cab. It holds, but the rt rear brake is too tight when it is off. It seems that nothing I can do will get the driver's side to hold. What am I doing wrong? I have the left rear drum off to see if there is an issue inside the brake drum. Nothing amiss that I can see. This message was edited by mhsprecher on 9-11-21 @ 5:39 PM

Did you replace the p-brake lever hold-off springs? There has been an issue with the repro springs that hold off the p-brake lever inside the drum. That repro spring that fits between the lever and the tube in the backing plate is about twice as long as it should be. When p-brake is applied, the repro spring compresses fully but doesn't let the brake shoe to engage tight enough to the drum. I don't recall how long the spring should be but someone here may know.

I didn't do the work on the truck, so I don't know. Looking at the pic, it appears that the arm that engages the brake shoes is tight against that box that goes around the axle, so it can't move any more. It appears that whatever spring retracts that actuation arm is missing or installed improperly? I think the other side may work, so I need to take the other wheel off and see what it looks like inside.

After a lot of head scratching and multiple searches, I may have identified my problem. It looks like the brake assembly is not properly assembled. It looks like the prior owner or restorer reversed the actuating arm between sides, if the passenger car brakes are similar.
