Topic: Setting points?

How is the easiest way to set the points? Should I remove distributor and set them? Will distributor only clock in one way? What should points be set at on 47 pickup? Thank you.

The best way to set the points on the front mounted dual point distributor is to set them on a distributor machine.

The opening of the "break" set of points determines initial timing of the ignition and it is best set on a distributor machine. Skip Haney in Florida performs this service. http://www.fordcollector.com/coils.htm

Here is a link on how to do it using 2 rulers.

The tang on the distributor only fits into the camshaft in one position. If you look at the back of the distributor, you will see that the tang is offset from the center. To install the distributor, you must make sure that it is up tight against the timing gear cover and the bolt holes are lined up. You can cut off the heads of a couple of bolts and use them as guide studs.
