Topic: 1936 Ford truck hood hinge

Hi, I am wondering if there is a way to separate the centre hood hinge on a 1936 Ford truck. Also, I see replacement hinges available and I’m wondering how the new ones are secured.

The hood hinge is a two piece hinge. If you look carefully you will see that one side slides into the other side. It can be separated carefully using a rubber hammer and some lubricant. The hinge pieces are spot welded to the lip of the hood pieces.
Replacement hinges are available.
You will have to weld (I used a mig-welder) to install a new hinge. Make sure that the new hinge is welded in the same place as the old hinge otherwise it will not fit correctly.
The original manufacturing process is another one of those Ford specialties. If your hood is in good condition you will notice that there is paint behind the hinge -- so was the hinge spot welded to a finished paint job originally?

Thanks, so to separate it will it slide apart length ways or from the side? It is not welded, the hood is stamped to the hinge. ( not sure what the process is called) the image should show it pretty good.

  Yes.
If you look at either end of the hinge you will see that one side fits in the other.
After years, you may have to do some work to get the ends so they slide out, as they maybe damaged.
