I would like to find out if this is the correct column and wheel for my 1938 Ford pickup. Does anyone have the length of the column and where it would be measured from. Thanks

  hi 1938pickup
the steering wheel looks to me like a PACKARD in the early 1950's, of the knight's helmet
AFTER MARKET wheels are being reproduced, C and G has them
steering column looks correct,
can you take a photo from under the hood ? of the column
hope this helps, 1937RAGTOPMAN

Does this show what you are looking for?

YES that's the original FORD steering box,
like I posted the steering wheel is not the right one,you need to find a 1938 pickup steering wheel [ repro's are made ]
you need a light switch rod. that goes with the original 38 steering wheel,
by the photo there is NO Light switch bulb,
there should be a bulb hanging on the bottom of the steering column held on by a wire bail ?
that is were the light switch, should have a bunch of wire coming out of it
for all the lights on the truck, and horn wires,

I just hope when they installed the odd steering wheel they did not butcher the steering shaft,
your original wheel was keyed.
you will have to remove the steering wheel to find out,
how are your lights hooked up,
hope this helps 1937Ragtopman
you can request a catalog from a V8 FORD PARTS SUPPLIERS would be of GREAT HELP, C and G ,
EARLY FORD PARTS, in NC is just a few of many

Your steering wheel is not a Packard wheel. It is a '48 ford passenger car wheel that fits your original keyed shaft. The horn ring is also '48 Ford and has a non Ford plastic horn button. It's possible that all you have to do is install a '38 wheel and horn button with the rod and attach the light switch at the bottom. Frankly that can be a lot of work unless you are serious about having everything bone stock. If you already have a light switch somewhere else I would simply just change the steering wheel and install the horn button. You can buy the repo wheel, but the button is not reproduced. Since your truck has some other non-stock items, a simple solution would be to keep what you have and replace the plastic button in the center with a 46-48 Ford plastic button.

LOOKS like I made a MISTAKE in the wheel, was hard to make out in the photo but
looked very similar to what I had in my 51 PACKARD CONVERTIBLE,

looks like you need to go with what you have,,, or invest in what the truck had,
I would look for first for the LIGHT SWITCH rod first, might be hard to find,?
put a want post on this web site,
get a photo of what exactly what the 1938 PICK UP used,
or you could go with a passenger car 1938 1939 set up, should fit the same,
sorry for the mistake !
my 2 cents 1937Ragtopman
