Topic: Piston Rings.

Bringing back to life a 47 half ton V8 pickup after 30 year barn storage. Need piston rings and not sure what I have. Engine says 50A-B on heads. Is this correct for this truck? What is the model on this truck? I don't know any model numbers before the F series. What is the cubic inch of this engine?

The engine should be a 239 cu. in., 24 stud, Flathead V-8 if it is the original engine. The water outlets should be centered on the tops of the heads. The distributor should be on the front cover centered over the camshaft gear. The original bore was 3 3/16".

  HI
I think you will have to pull 1 piston and rod out, to see what size you need to look for,
they had 3 and 4 ring pistons, though the years,
I would not use chrome rings, hard to seat,
. there are original FORD nos rings out there for sale
hope this helps 1937 RAGTOPMAN

If you pull a ,piston be sure to measure ring width as well. I have come across 59AB engines that had the later 8BA pistons in them.

If a 47 half ton, it was pre F Series, correct name was 1947 Ford Commercial Pickup, (F series started in 1948)
Two engine options were a 90HP, 6 or a 59A 100hp, V8, 239 cu inches.
Should be a 3 or 4 speed mostly likely on the floor, a very few models had column shifter.
I am not a highly technical engine guy but well versed on 46 & 47 Ford trucks, esp pickups.
Lots of parts and restoration info if you are interested....Good Luck!
Should be a VIN on top of front left frame rail.
