I have seen Argent and Tacoma cream painted grills (some with red striping) and stainless steel covered grill bars. Were there changes by year, size, model and were the stainless bars limited to firetrucks?

  1932,
Argent painted grills went thru mid 1951(July 12, I think)because of Korean war limits, switched to Creame paint thru 1952 grills.
The 1950 had the chrome bars.

I have a very original '48 with a cream colored grill background. I don't think argent started until '49. It has stainless bars.

It is my understanding that 48 grills were cream and 49-50 were argent. Only the 48 grills were drilled from the factory for the screws to install the stainless grill bar strips, but as I understand the stainless bars could be special ordered on 49 & 50 trucks also. My 49 F4 was original when I started restoration, the grill was argent and it has no holes drilled in the bottom edge of grill bars for the stainless strips.

Mark Poley is pretty much spot on with the grill color offerings- however there was no ''cream''- it was 'Tucson Tan'-in 48 with SS strips.49 and 50 was Argent painted unless special ordered with the stainless.I have seen the argent grills with single and double pinstripes on each grill bar in Red.
