Getting ready to buy 1950 F1 and was advised by the owner the Steering Box is leaking. What are my options on fixing this? Thanks in advance.

You should add your general location to your profile and someone will probably suggest where to take it for an estimate or to get it fixed.

there is a seal on the pitman arm shaft, common problem and usually best solved by replacing this seal, I have even done it on the truck and then refilling steering box with 50/50 mixture of synthetic grease and synthetic 85/90 trans fluid mixed together

After doing some research on my problem with the steering box leaking (1950 F1) and having checked out this topic on some Tech forums I think I will try to find a trustworthy mechanic in Palm Beach, Fla. Thanks to those who commented and offered their advice.

If you are a V-8 Club member use your roster and contact some of the members who live near you. They may know of a good mechanic or another club member who can help you.

As a point of information for anyone who comes across the same issue as me. I was able to locate a company in MN., called Lares Corp. They rebuild Ford Steering Gear Boxes. Had to pull the entire steering column out of the bottom of the truck and ship it to them. Takes about two weeks for them to complete the rebuild.

Were you able to get the box & column out w/the truck on jackstands ? Or , did you have it on a lift ?
What was the cost of the rebuild ? - F F

On jack stands but it would be easier to do on a lift. The cost of the rebuild was $377.99 plus shipping.
