Would like to find a modern radio that fits the dash opening in my 1948 Ford F1. Cant seem to find one. Does anyone know of one that will fit the original opening? Original radio just had a control head mounted there, with the huge tube radio mounted on the inside of the firewall.

I'm not familiar with the 48 F-1 radio, but here's a suggestion. If your radio is controlled by cables running from the radio head to the radio box, you can use the original head to operate a modern radio. Remove the original radio box after disconnecting the cables to it. Mount the modern radio where it can't be seen and then mate the original cables to the new radio. You can still buy some inexpensive radios that are controlled by knobs rather than push buttons, so you can mate the cables to the shafts on the new radio.

My F-1 has a Motorola radio designed to fit in the space. The speaker is part of the box and lines up with the louvers on the dash panel. That's the only configuration I've ever seen. I think what you're describing is unusual. You may have trouble trying to duplicate it!!

What year is your F1? The 48 has the radio opening above the speaker grille.

Yes, although not Ford, this is probably the radio that was in the truck when new. And yes, the controls are on top.

Here are some ideas: If you have sheet metal skills or know someone who does, make a plate that will cover the dash opening, and cut holes in it that will fit the radio you choose. Then you could paint it to match the dash. Of course you will need a radio that will not interfere with the cowl vent or w/s wiper mechanism. I have seen this done on 46-48 ford cars and it came out nice.
