I have a chance to purchase a 1940 pickup in good condition without engine or transmission. I would like to install a small V6 engine with automatic transmission. I am not interested in burning rubber when leaving the donut shop, just a reliable and easy install trying to keep it as simple as possible. Any suggestions? Thanks..

You would probably have better luck getting a response at: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/ I wonder if you could find a V6 with the same bolt pattern on the bell housing as the V8 Chevy? If you can you can get a standard speed shop adapter to your existing transmission and not have to change your rear end. This sounds like it could be a fun project! You could use a Ford Vulcan 3.0L V-6 engine and automatic transmission from a Ford Ranger pick up truck. Be sure to get the EEC wiring harness from the donor vehicle as this engine was never offered with a carburetor. You will probably want to convert to an open driveline.

If you want a more modern drivetrain, buy one already modified. They are out there and will save you lots of time and money. If you have never done a project you will soon see it's time consuming and expensive. Spend the money right up front. Get a knowledgeable person to help you find the right truck.
