Having an issue with my '48 Mercury where each time I apply the breaks the dash lights go out. Break lights work and I must have a wire crossed somewhere but I cannot figure out or find the issue. Suggestions?

Do you have halogen brake lights? They draw lots of current and could make it look like the instrument lights went out. Did you do any wiring work on the car? If so, what did you do? Tom
