I want to change both the diff. and trans. gear oil on my 47 merc.The trans. takes 90 w, and diff. 140w. All I can find is 80w90 & 85w 140, is it ok to use a multi-grade. Thanks for your help. This message was edited by BIGTERR on 10-14-15 @ 8:37 AM

There are several recent posts on this subject. The general consensus seems to be 90w for the trans. and 140w for the rear axle. I would not use anything heavier than that especially if you live in cold weather. I use 85-140 in both and it works fine.
